Greater Phoenix attracted the third-most residents from outside the metropolitan area, according to new data released this week.
Maricopa County was No. 3 for in-migration, welcoming 8,072 new household relocations between 2012 and 2013, according to data from the Internal Revenue Service.
That was behind only Harris (No. 2) and Travis (No. 1) counties in Texas, home to Houston and Austin, respectively. Phoenix was ahead of Clark County, Nevada, which is home to Las Vegas and welcomed 6,400 new households in the same period.
Miami-Dade County in Florida lost the most households. The greater Miami area lost 14,026 households in 2012-13, outpacing Las Angeles County, which saw a dip in households by 13,733, and Cook County, Illinois (home of Chicago), which lost 8,274 households during the same period.
