Phoenix sees uptick in construction jobs, ranks among tops in U.S.

    aptconstructionThe Phoenix metro area added 7,900 construction jobs between November 2014 and November 2015 as the industry continues its recovery from the last recession.

    The Valley has 104,800 construction workers, according to new numbers from the Associated General Contractors. That is up from 96,900 workers in November 2014.

    Only New York (9,200), Denver (8,300) and Orange County (8,200) added more construction jobs than Phoenix during the last year, according to AGC.

    Fort Worth, Texas, and Raleigh, North Carolina, lost the most jobs during the same time frame, 5,400 and 1,800 jobs respectively.

    Arizona bled construction and real estate jobs during and after the recession. Workers left for other states recovering quicker from the downturn.

    But there has been significant apartment construction in and around Phoenix and that is helping create construction jobs.
